A group of 16 dueling electors in the 2020 elections are now facing criminal charges in Michigan. In the midst of all the controversy of that election, seven states sent dueling electors to cast electoral college votes, in opposition to the ones sent by the state. This was in line with legal precedence. The dueling electors legally could have been taken as the legitimate votes, and state actions to stop them from casting their votes could have instead been deemed illegal. But the actions of these electors are now being deemed a crime.
